Apple requests sales ban on Samsung phones

Apple has asked for a permanent injunction on several Samsung devices that infringe on three of its patents.

Apple has requested a sales ban on nine older Samsung smartphones following a jury verdict earlier this month that three patents had been infringed.

Apple is demanding older Samsung handsets including the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S IIEpic 4G Touch, Galaxy SII Skyrocket, Galaxy S III and Stratosphere be pulled from shops.

The nine smartphones have been accused of violating Apple’s patents for quick links, slide to unlock and automatic word correction.

But that’s not all - the iPhone maker is also seeking a retrial in pursuit of the £1.3bn ($2.2bn) it originally sought in its most recent legal battle, in which it only walked away with £94,000 ($158,400).

Apple says that Samsung "will suffer irreparable harm if Samsung continues its use of the Infringing Features” and "that monetary damages cannot adequately compensate Apple for this resulting irreparable harm".

Apple filed the latest request with U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in San Jose, California.

Although it may be easier said than done for Apple, as Koh has twice rejected the iPhone-maker’s request in that case.

Samsung can also seek a ban because the jury concluded that Apple infringed one of its patents.
